Buying a new pc

Are you looking for a new computer...lost in a world of numbers and letters and don't know what one to buy...well have no fear i am here to help.

PC or Laptop?

Firstly you want to decide whether you want a PC or a laptop. Personally i would suggest a laptop. That way you can get all the benefits of a PC but you can also take it with you and do work in other places if you are in the library or if you are meeting with friends for study or group work. The next step is to have a budget. You want value for money which in this economic climate should be very easy to get as everyone is competing for business. Once you have your budget you are ready to hit the shops.

Hard Drives and RAM!!!

When looking at computers you will need to consider the size of the hard drive and RAM. Personally I believe the bigger the better. If you are doing college work you are most likely going to have a lot of essays, presentations, notes and course work on your computer and lets face it...there is going to be a lot of music, games and probably pictures on there too. The last thing you want is your computer to become so slow that you have to turn it on in the morning to do work that evening. If when you buy a computer and you find yourself running out of memory have no fear. your can always buy external hard drives, USB keys and burn things onto CD's.

The Graphics Card!

Graphics card? what's that i hear you ask?? A graphics card is a plug in card that connects to your computers motherboard. This displays the images you see on your screen and determines the quality of the pictures and video you see. Generally you won't need to worry about this but for those artistic and design people out there you might want to take this into consideration. If you will be using you computer to design things, create videos or animations ect. you will again want a good and big graphics card.

Operating Systems!

There are quite a few operating systems out there now the most common being Windows and Macintosh with Linux also growing in popularity. Generally most programmes are windows compatible however windows has had its issues with viruses and malfunctions. Personally i feel that Macintosh is more reliable but it is more expensive and there are still some programmes that aren't macintosh compatible. The choice is ultimately yours but it is something to bare in mind.

Security!!!

Protection and security on your computer is invaluable. DO NOT skimp on the security. In this day and age there are viruses galore just waiting to get into your computer and corrupt it. DON'T LET THEM! The last thing you want is to have to wipe your computer and everything on it because you were too lenient on the security. There are many to choose from such as Norton anti virus or McAfee so protect yourself.

I hope this will help you in your quest for a new computer but just remember one other thing...BEWARE refurbished or repaired computers!

Article on How mobile phones are more dangerous than smoking

Mobile phones are part of our everyday lives and we have all heard the hype about mobile phones and radiation but have never really held much by it. However a recent study by Dr. Vini Khurana shows the mobile phones could in fact be more dangerous than smoking or asbestos.
In october of 2008 the IOS reported that over 10 years the use of mobile phones can double the risk of brain cancer as cancers can take up to ten years to develop. While earlier studies may have concluded otherwise those studies had participants who would not have used a mobile phone for that long. As a result of this study the French government have warned against people and children in particular using mobile phones and the European Environment agency as well as the German government are trying to convince people to reduce the use of their headsets.
We all know that mobile phones are a vital part of our society for work, contact with friends and are prticularly useful in emergencies. Although Dr. Khurana agrees with this he also states that " There is a significant and increasing body for a link between mobile phone usage and certain usage". He believes that we will have definite use of this over the next 10 years.
Dr Khurana is urging people and governments to act quickly so that over the next 10 years we won't see an increase in malignant brain tumours which may not be susceptable to medical intervention. This scary prospect has had a lot of media coverage since the popularity of mobile phones but could it be that we are too dependant on our mobile phones to heed these warnings? The Mobile Operators association has dismissed the results saying that Dr Kahurana's study "Does not present a balanced analysis" as it is a "Selective discussion of scientific literature by one individual".
I guess the only thing to do is wait as only time will tell. Would it be such a bad thing though to be somewhat less dependant on our mobiles?

Article On Technology Dependant Children

I found this article the other day on technology dependant children and when I read the title I assumed it was about children who were addicted to technology but i was ver wrong. This article is about children whose lives are dependant on technology in order to survive. Their lives rest in the hands of technology and in turn so do the lives of their parents.
Some of these technology dependant children require feedings which are administered by a mechanical pump into their veins or their intestines which is not necessarily life threatening but some children are much more dependant. Some children are on ventilators to help them breathe. What happens then in the event of a technology malfunction? What happens to these children if there is a power cut? Every member of their family has to be specially trained to use the technology and also to trouble shoot the technology if it fails, but what happens to the child while their carer or parent is trying to fix the machines and they can't breathe?
This would also affect children who are on dialysis machines. What would happen to them of the technology failed during dialysis? At any given time during dialysis there is around 1 pint of blood outside your body. How could a child survive during a malfunction with immediate blood loss and unclean blood inside the body?
This is not the only issue for these dependant children. What about the cost? These machines are evidently expensive to have and surely expensive to fix if something goes wrong. Also as technology develops day by day there will be no doubt be more advanced machines which will naturally be more expensive. In this sense, with bills ranging from $75,000 to $300,000 in the U.S.A, the lives of the parents of these children is being dominated by technology also.
How many of these children are in society at the moment? Sadly there aren't a lot of figures however studies in the U.S.A show that twenty years ago there were 50,000 children dependant on technology, 2,000 of which were on ventilators. In 2006 a surves showed a 25% increase in the number of technology dependant children.
The question is, is it safe to put the lives of children in the hands of technology? For the moment we don't have any other choice.

For all you tech savvy ppl out there!!

To: Tech Support

To whom it may concern,
Last year I upgraded from Boyfriend 5.0 to Husband 1.0 and noticed that the new program began making unexpected changes to the accounting software severely limiting access to wardrobe, flower and jewelry applications that operated flawlessly under Boyfriend 5.0. No mention of this phenomenon was included in the product brochure. In addition, Husband 1.0 uninstalls many other valuable programs such as DinnerDancing 7.5, CruiseShip 2.3, and OperaNight 6.1 and installs new, undesirable programs such as PokerNight 1.3, SaturdayFootball 5.0, Golf 2.4, and ClutterEverywhere 4.5. Conversation 8.0 no longer runs, and invariably crashes the system. Under no circumstances will it run DiaperChanging 14.1 or HouseCleaning 2.6. I've tried running Nagging 5.3 to fix Husband 1.0, but this all purpose utility is of limited effectiveness. Can you help, please!!!!

Signed, Jane

Dear Jane:
This is a very common problem women complain about, but it is mostly due to a primary misconception. Many people upgrade from Boyfriend 5.0 to Husband 1.0 with no idea that Boyfriend 5.0 is merely an ENTERTAINMENT package. However, Husband 1.0 is an OPERATING SYSTEM and was designed by its creator to run as few applications as possible. Further, you cannot purge Husband 1.0 and return to Boyfriend 5.0, because Husband 1.0 is not designed to do this. Hidden operating files within your system would cause Boyfriend 5.0 to emulate Husband 1.0, so nothing is gained. It is impossible to uninstall, delete, or purge the program files from the system, once installed. Any new program files can only be installed once per year, as Husband 1.0 has severely limited memory. Error messages are common, and a normal part of Husband 1.0.
Husband 1.0 is a great program, but it does have limited memory and cannot learn new applications quickly. Consider buying additional software to improve performance. I personally recommend HotFood 3.0 and Patience 10.1. Used in conjunction, these utilities can really help keep Husband 1.0 running smoothly. After several years of use, Husband 1.0 will become familiar and you will find many valuable embedded features such as FixBrokenThings 2.1, Snuggling 4.2 and BestFriend 7.6. I hope these notes have helped. Thank you for choosing to install Husband 1.0 and we here at Tech Support wish you the best of luck in coming years. We trust you will learn to fully enjoy this product!

Sincerely,
Tech Support

If a womans brain and a mans brain were for sale yes, the womans brain would be a lot cheaper but only because it was used more!!!!

The Smart Woman

One fine summers dy a woman was playing a round of golf. As she walked across the green she saw a frog. The frog aproached her and offered to grant her 3 wishes however there was a catch. For whatever she wished for her husband would recieve three times as much. the woman contemplated this and then made her first wish. She wished to be the most beautiful woman in the world. The frog warned her that this would mean her husband would be three times as handsome but she was happy as she would be the most beautiful woman in the world and her husband would have eyes only for her.

For her second wish the woman wished to be the richest woman in the world. She knew this would make her husband 3 times as rich but what is his is hers and what is hers is his The frog granted her wish. she was now the most beautiful and richest woman in the world.

For her third wish she wished for a mild heart attack!!!

Welcome to the world of women!!!

Hey.

Welcome to my blog. i am going to explore what the world would be like if it were truely run by women!! would it be better or worse?? we will soon find out! No doubt men would critisize and claim that if women ruled the world cars wouldn't have reverse gear or every parking space would be another 5 meters wide and it still wouldnt be big enough!! But how wouold men cope with this female world?? surely they wouold be happy in the knowledge that neve again would getting lost be a problem as asking for directions would be the law! Building flat pack items from woodies or ikea would no longer take 5 hours as the women would be there to read the instructions!! surely this world would be better?? stay tuned!! x
